7 Night Itinerary South

Are you looking to spend 7 nights on an adventure sailing through the Great Sandy Strait? Check out our suggested 7 night itinerary south bound below. This is a great option during summer weather conditions!

Night 1: Harbour to moon point via pelican bank [1.5 hours]

Before you set sail our skippered staff with take you through a briefing of the vessel. Then you'll be driven out of the harbour and you're free to embark on your self drive sailing adventure. The first anchorage for your 7 night itinerary in southernly winds is Moon Point. Don't forget to stop by the white sands and crystal clear waters of Pelican Bank on your way north.

Night 2: Moon point to Big woody [1 hour]

Wake up in paradise after an afternoon of exploring moon creek. Now it’s time to head over to the historic Big Woody Island. This island was originally home to two heritage-listed lighthouses used to navigate ships into Hervey Bay in the 1800's. Head to shore and take the walk to the Middle Bluff Lighthouse for some great views over to Fraser Island.

Night 3: Big Woody to Ungowa [2.5 hours]

It’s time to keep moving south! You’ll start to notice the scenery of Fraser Island change as you venture further south with the cliffs full of dark coffee rock and green vegetation. Make sure you take the tender out to explore. There are two shipwrecks the Ceratodus Wreck south of the Ungowa Jetty and the SS Palmer in nearby Deep Creek. This is the perfect spot to throw out a crab pot and cook up dinner back on the boat!

Night 4: Ungowa to gary's anchorage [2 hours]

Next you'll head to our most southern anchorage- Gary's Anchorage. You’ll wind your way through picturesque smaller islands of the strait including Dream and Stuart Islands before reaching Gary’s Anchorage. Here you’ll continue to see the lush greenery and coffee rock along the coast. You’ll also find plenty to do with hidden creeks to explore with the tender.

Night 5: Gary's Anchorage to kingfisher [3.5 hours]

For the fifth night on your sailing adventure, it's time to head north again! This time stopping in at Kingfisher Bay. Enjoy some fishing action or a relaxing swim in the ocean. This is a great spot to explore on foot to historical spots like McKenzies Jetty or head to the lookout.

Night 6: kingfisher bay

You can do as much, or as little, as you want on the second day anchored at Kingfisher Bay. We recommend jumping in tender and exploring this magnificent coastline. If you're keen to get to land, this is the perfect spot with a number of great walks to spots like Lake McKenzieMcKenzies Jetty and more.

Night 7: Kingfisher to Moon Point [2 hours]

Make the most of your last full day on charter with us by making your way to the final stop, Big Woody Island. Big Woody Island has plenty of local history to soak up while you hop in the tender and head ashore. 

The next morning you'll head back to mainland Hervey Bay. There you’ll be escorted into the Great Sandy Straits Marina by one of our team members.
